Internet Forums May Just Be the Ruin of Civilization (Or Evyn’s Guide to Intarnetsweb forums)
Truly. Look at my above topic sentence and tell me I am wrong. See? You just can’t do it. Many people on the Intarwebnets are morons, and Bless God for that fact. For without internet forums, where would we get the fantabulous intarnet phenomena such as Goatsec.x, or that stupid JUGGERNAUT X-men dubbing video? Of course, some of these may not have been started by forums, but their popularity was certainly helped by them. More on the fact, here is a list of some of my favorite online watering holes. Now, mind you, I hardly EVER post on them. A few years ago I was into the whole “Post like crazy!” schtick, but I’ve over it. I just love reading what other peoples opinions (the poor fools) are. Here, in no particular order, are some of the finest dregs of society (intarnets style).
Quarter To Three – This may just be the most intelligent message board on the internet, where things such as games, movies (referred to as “film”), music, and popular culture are discussed, dissected, probed, and inserted. Honestly, my favorite out of the bunch, but not for stupidity reasons. Maybe I’m a little strange, but I like hanging out with people whose IQ is above room temperature. quartertothree.com
Something Awful - Wow, as if to make up for the thoughtfullness that is Quarter to 3, there is the Something Awful forums. As the Ying to the Yang, if there is anything, and I mean, anything that can waste time on the internet (trust me, theres a lot), it can be found on the SA message boards. Its as if there are people who have trained monkeys to constantly search the internet, looking for the strangest, grossest, most offensive…stuff imaginable. All in all, I love these forums.
Gamefaqs – Now here is a site where a bunch of guys got together ans said “lets make webpage where all the fanboys can get together and post all the crap they want to, such as worthless faqs and shitty reviews!” You know, theres a reason critics and walkthrough writers (professional ones) get paid. That because they can do a good job. 99.2% (carefully calculated) of fanboys who get it into their skull that they should write a faq or walkthrough are precisely those that are never going to get the job writing these things, thus they inflict upon all newcomers. To those who actually do a good job on them, I salute you. To those who don’t, please, stop. Just stop.
IGN – IGN hosts a huge elephantful tankard of forums, just waiting to be dived into. Welcome to the world of Flame Wars! What are flame wars, you ask? Its when a bunch of fans of a particular game/genre/anything piss off another group of fan of game/genre/whatever, thereby starting an utterly pointless war of attrition, a grueling fight, sometimes to the death, where one group just shouts nonsense at one another in a pitiful plea for them to change their mind. Of course this never works, and it just keeps going on and on and on until a moderator locks the topic. Thankfully, no lives are lost, but is that a bad thing?
Mine – Best. Forums. EVAR.
And there you have it. A short bite of what the internet has to offer in terms of mental retardation. Welcome to the World of Tomorrow!
